Essay: My Country: India

India is my country. Geographically it is located in tho south of the Asia continent. My country is as big as a continent in area and is naturally protected well from all directions. In the north there are the mountain ranges of Himalaya, the biggest in the world. In the south there is the Indian Ocean, in the east in the Bay of Bengal and in the west is the Arabic sea. Its population is more than ninety crores, a number second only to China.

My country is a democracy. Though there are almost fourteen nationally recognized languages, the national language of my country is Hindi; my country has a beautiful tricolored national flag with orange-white-green horizontal stripes with 'Ashoka Wheel' at the centre. Ganges, Yamuna, Indus, Brahmaputra, Godavari, Narmada, Cauvery are some of the big rivers of India.

India is a country of villages. It has 28 states which again have many small villages. Village people do farming. So India is chiefly an agricultural country. It produces crops like cotton, jute, sugarcane, wheat, rice, cereals etc.

My country has rich historical, religious, cultural heritage. Great leaders like Shivaji, Gandhiji, Nehru, Savarkar, Dr. Ambedkar were born in this country. Great scientists like Dr. Jagadeeshchandra Bose, Dr. C. V Raman, Dr Homi Bhabha, Dr. Naralikar from this country have made original contributions to science.

Great reformers like Mother Teresa, T.N. Sheshan, Pandurangashastri Alhavale  have won the Magsese Award. In my country people of different language, religions and social practices. live together happily. They celebratre various festivals like Diwali, Pongal, Id, Pateti etc. But 15th August and 25th January are the national days. Though India is consider to be a poor country from the third world its developing rapidly, in science and technology. Education is spreading in the illiterate majority.

India, my country, has much diversity. Still there is a strong unity and peace. In the world India has an image of peace-loving country which makes it morally strong.

Really, I’m proud of being an Indian.
