Essay: The Republic Day


26th January is a very special day in the history 14 independent India. India got freedom on 15th August 1947. Three years later on 26th January 1950, India had its own constitution. India became a democratic republic. Dr. Rajendra Prasad became India's first President on this day.

This day is a red lettered day of great historic importance. Every year this day is celebrated as the Republic Day all over India with great enthusiasm. Government declares a national holiday on this day. People take out processions and arrange cultural programmers. A splendid function is arranged in Delhi, the capital of India.

The Prime Minister visits Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate. There he offers his floral tribute to all those soldiers who devoted their life for India. Then begins the grand parade and a colourful procession. It starts from Vijay Chowk and ends at the Red Fort. The President takes the salute of the parade. The jawans from India's three military forces - the Army, the Navy and the Air force participate in it. Aeroplanes, tanks, weapons like guns, Jolnades and other missiles are displayed. Cadets of N.C.C. and qui police also participate. The parade is much disciplined. After the parade follow the troupes of students from schools and colleges from various parts of India. They wear their colourful traditional garments, sing songs and represent the state they come from. Colourful tableaus are made to represent the cultural, social and developmental aspects of various states in India.

The jawans from the airforce display the acrobatic flypast of aeroplanes. They acrobat with parachutes. It is a very thrilling scene which holds our breaths.

Thousands of people from all over the country clock in Delhi to see this grand celebration of our Republic Day.
